In the first experiment, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis was serially passed 3 times by intraperitoneal infection of Ictalurus punctatus. The tomites obtained from intraperitoneally-grown trophozoites could also infect the skin and gills of I. punctatus. Mature trophozoites were recovered from 100, 94 and 100% of I. punctatus, respectively. Trophozoites developed into tomites only from the first and 2nd passage (53 and 70%).
