Experimental mass-rearing of the mosquitofish, Gambusia affinis

Experimental mass-rearing of the mosquitofish, Gambusia affinis

Journal of the American Mosquito Control Association 1(3): 295-298

The use of Gambusia affinis for the biological control of mosquitoes is limited by the supply of fish. A solar heated, closed-system, intensive culture facility for rearing this predator is described. The results of fry production experiments and short-term growth rate experiments are presented and indicate that operational fish production at or below the goal of $16.50/kg will not be reached easily.
