Experimental methodology for quantitative measurement of light interference amongst three species

Measurements of photosynthetically active radiation in stands of oilseed rape, Sinapis arvensis and Chenopodium album were made with a line quantum sensor connected to a datalogger. Using LAI values based on Beer-Lambert Law (I = Ioe-K*L.A.I.), where Io = irradiance value above the canopy and I = irradiance value within the canopy, the technique was accurate, non-destructive and more rapid than using an area meter.
