Experimental mutagenesis and the production of varieties of Gossypium barbadense

Among 27 mutants recently produced in Turkmenistan by means of ionizing radiation or chemical mutagens, the most promising were Bakhar 1 and Bakhar 2, which have been submitted for state varietal trials. Bakhar 1 was derived from 2I3 by treatment with a 0.01% solution of NP83 (the dichloroethyl ester oxalate of dichlorodiethylaminoethylphosphinic acid) and Bakhar 2 was derived from the same variety by treating air-dried seeds with a 10 kR gamma ray dose. Both mutants are described.
