Experimental mutagenesis in breeding maize for disease resistance

In 1981-82, 310 disease resistant hybrids were obtained by crossing 67 chemically induced mutant lines with testers. Of the hybrids, 34 gave high grain yields and were resistant to a range of fungal root and stem rots and smuts under the conditions of the Transcarpathian Experiment Station, Ukraine.
