Rabies virus isolated from pooled salivary glands of foxes that had died from naturally acquired rabies was injected i/m into 7 beagles at a dose of 107.65 mouse intracerebral LD50. Six developed symptoms of non-furious rabies, and five died 13-16 days after infection. At histological examination only three had Negri bodies. The virus was recovered from nervous tissue, but not from salivary glands, nor from the saliva of the two survivors.
