Experimental studies of ascending Candida pyelonephritis in rats

An experimental model of ascending pyelonephritis in female rats was devised. Cyclophosphamide was administered transperitoneally at 200 mg/kg body wt. to suppress the host defence mechanism, 0.5 ml of 0.75% acetic acid sol. was instilled transurethrally into the bladder 2 days later and on the next day 107 cells of C. albicans were inoculated into the bladder transurethrally. Six groups of 15 rats were sacrificed at intervals 1-28 days after inoculation.
