In order to evaluate the role of fish as paratenic hosts of B. claviceps, (a parasite of Anguilla anguilla) the larval development of which takes place in copepods, 5 species of fish were exposed to infection via infected Macrocyclops albidus, M. fuscus, Megacyclops viridis viridis and Acanthocyclops robustus. Larvae of B. claviceps were recovered among the intestinal villi of Gambusia affinis, Phoxinus phoxinus, Alburnus alburnus and Gobio gobio, and in the pyloric caeca of Lepomis gibbosus.
