To study the perpetuation of infection with swine fever virus from carrier pigs, the presence of the virus was sought in blood and urine of vaccinated pigs for 30 days after challenge with virulent virus. Two weeks after vaccination with 1/100th dose of the LPC-China strain, piglets with low maternal antibody titres received virulent swine fever virus. Two control pigs died 12-14 days later. Two of the 12 vaccinated pigs had a transient mild febrile response.
