Experimental trampling in a suburban forest: description of the experiment and pedological investigations

A path through Carpinus betulus/Quercus sessiliflora woodland was trampled about 10 times each week between 21 January 1982 and 14 March 1983 and penetration, apparent density, porosity and permeability were measured at intervals. Differences between trampled and control areas were found even when the amount of trampling was still very low. Recovery of the soil properties after trampling was very rapid.
