Experimentally induced Bacillus cereus mastitis in cows

Experimentally induced Bacillus cereus mastitis in cows

Magyar Allatorvosok Lapja 40(10): 609-613

Quarters inoculated with B. cereus developed acute mastitis, followed by atrophy and cessation of milk secretion. B. cereus was re-isolated from the secretions for up to a week after infection, but never in blood. Bacterial toxin was demonstrated in secretions from affected quarters and in blood. Histological examination of biopsy specimens revealed vacuolar degeneration in alveolar epithelium, cellular exudation in lumen and ducts, oedema and neutrophilic infiltration.
