Experiments on growing plants in artificial substrates in unheated plastic houses

Experiments on growing plants in artificial substrates in unheated plastic houses

Nauchno Tekhnicheskii Byulleten' po Agronomicheskoi Fizike (56): 46-50

In preliminary experiments, bench cultivation in a closed system with a circulating nutrient solution was used for growing cucumbers (cv. TSKhA-77). The substrates were peat, Keramzite (clay heated at 1200 degrees C), peat-Keramzite-mixture or soil on peat beds (control). Nutrients in the solution were applied at 1.75 g/litre. Maximum yield was 40.8kg/msuperscript 2 and average yields in 2 years were 36.6 and 27.4 kg/msuperscript 2, respectively.
