Experiments on the induction of mutagenesis in Scots pine

Experiments on the induction of mutagenesis in Scots pine

Lesovodstvo i Agrolesomelioratsiya (65): 32-36

Seeds from 3 trees growing in a pure stand in Khar'kov province, Ukraine, were treated for 18 h with 0.01-0.1% ethylenimine (EI), dimethylsulphate (DMS) and nitrosodimethylurea (NDMU). Stimulatory effects on growth were found at the lowest concn., with inhibition increasing with increasing concn. Four types of changes were observed: dwarfing, variegation, shortening of needles and twisted appearance.
