Experiments on the storage of Rainer and Bing cherries. 1984 Season

Experiments on the storage of Rainer and Bing cherries. 1984 Season

Alon Hanotea 39(12): 1035-1042

Three weekly sprays of 1% calcium nitrate at the end of the growing season delayed ripening, particularly in Bing. Development of full fruit colour was delayed and total soluble solids contents were decreased. After harvesting the fruit should be cooled as quickly as possible. It is suggested that the fruit may be cooled while still in the orchard or should be transferred to the cold store soon after picking. Pitted fruit, which mainly appeared in storage, was caused by poor picking practices.
