Exploratory use of geostatistics for soil mapping in the Wyre Forest, England

Exploratory use of geostatistics for soil mapping in the Wyre Forest, England

Sciences de la Terre, Informatique Geologique (24): 171-173

The Wyre Forest in the West Midlands of England lies on folded and thinly bedded Upper Carboniferous sandstones and shales. Pleistocene dissection and solifluction of these materials have left an unusually intricate pattern of soil that has been elucidated only recently by thorough spatial analysis. A nested sampling and analysis showed that most of the variation in soil occurred between 6 m and 60 m.
