Expression of Plasmodium falciparum circumsporozoite proteins in Escherichia coli for potential use in a human malaria vaccine

Expression of Plasmodium falciparum circumsporozoite proteins in Escherichia coli for potential use in a human malaria vaccine

Science 228(4702): 958-962

Proteins composed of 16, 32 or 48 tandem copies of a tetrapeptide repeating sequence found in the circumsporozoite (CS) protein of P. falciparum were efficiently expressed in E. coli. A recombinant plasmid (pUC8 clone 1) containing the Eco RI insert from lambda m PFI was the source of the gene encoding the CS protein.
