Expression of extreme resistance to potato virus X (PVX) in Solanum acaule protoplasts

Expression of extreme resistance to potato virus X (PVX) in Solanum acaule protoplasts

Phytopathology 76(6): 652

Certain lines of S. acaule express major gene resistance to PVX. Protoplasts were obtained from PVX-resistant and susceptible lines, inoculated with purified PVX and assayed for PVX at various times after inoculation by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and infectivity on the local-lesion host Gomphrena globosa. The proportion of protoplasts infected was assessed by staining with fluorescein isothiocyanate labelled PVX antibody.
