Expression of heterosis in geographically distant cotton hybrids and peroxidase activity in the F1 seeds

Expression of heterosis in geographically distant cotton hybrids and peroxidase activity in the F1 seeds

Uzbekiston Biologija Zurnali (5): 66-67

Following crosses of 3 Soviet with 3 US Gossypium hirsutum varieties, appreciable heterosis over the better parent for boll number was shown by Samarkand 3 X Acala 1517 (but not by the reciprocal) and Samarkand 3 X Acala 6975. The best for boll weight was Acala 1517 X Tashkent 1, which showed high heterosis for yield. This cross alone showed heterosis for 100-seed weight.
