It is noted that, in ion-exchange chromatography of extracts from embryos of the diploid species Secale cereale, Hordeum vulgare, Triticum monococcum and T. tauschii only single peaks were observed, and that each genome synthesized its own lectins in the allopolyploids T. turgidum, T. aestivum and triticale, although lectin polypeptide chains could randomly combine with identical or different partners to give homodimeric and heterodimeric lectins.
