Expression of vernalization genes in near-isogenic wheat lines: effects of night temperature

Expression of vernalization genes in near-isogenic wheat lines: effects of night temperature

Annals of Botany 58(4): 523-529

Four near-isogenic lines of Triple Dirk, carrying Vrn1 Vrn2, vrn1 Vrn2, Vrn1 vrn2 and vrn1 vrn2 which condition varying degrees of vernalization response, were grown in a phytotron at a day temperature of 20 degrees C and night temperatures of 4, 7, 10, 13 and 20 degrees C. For vrn1 vrn2, with the strongest response, vernalization occurred at 4, 7 and 10 degrees C, but for the other genotypes low night temperatures delayed development and increased vegetative growth.
