Extenders for preservation of canine and equine spermatozoa at 5 degrees C

Extenders for preservation of canine and equine spermatozoa at 5 degrees C

Theriogenology 22(4): 409-415

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of 6 extenders and 3 glycerol concentrations on the motility of spermatozoa stored at 5 degrees C. Using a split-ejaculate design, semen from 10 dogs and 12 stallions was diluted with egg-yolk-Tris, egg yolk-bicarbonate, Beltsville F-3, Cornell University, caprogen and heated skim milk extenders. After cooling to 5 degrees , additional diluent containing 0-12% glycerol was added to provide a final concentration of 0, 3 or 6% glycerol.
