When the primary leaf of a 10-day-old etiolated Phaseolus vulgaris plant was illuminated for 10 min, followed by a 2-h dark period and then illuminated again for two 5-min periods with a 5-min dark period between them, O2 was first evolved during the 2nd 5-min illumination.
