Extent of phosphine residues in pulses

Extent of phosphine residues in pulses

Indian journal of nutrition and dietetics 22(7): 215-220

An analytical study sought to determine the extent of phosphine residues in moong and channa pulses fumigated with aluminum phosphide (phostoxin), and to estimate the time required for safe consumption of the pulses after fumigation. The study results indicated that: (a) 2 days of aeration of whole pulses and conversion of treated raw grain into dal and flour markedly reduced the phosphine residue levels; and (b) that treatment of raw pulses with 2-4 tablets of phostoxin/ton provides adequate fumigation and consumer safety. Data summaries on phosphine residue levels are presented and discussed.(wz)
