External otitis in dogs at a university veterinary hospital. Aetiology, frequency and antibiotic sensitivity

Of 30 cases presented during one year (1982/3), 11 were German Shepherds; of the 20 bilateral cases, 9 were German Shepherds. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from 17 (46%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa from 7 and S. epidermidis from 6. Candida sp. was isolated from 7, but always in association with a Staphylococcus.
