A simple and sensitive method for the estimation of cadmium is described. The binary complex formed between Cd and N-phenylcinnamohydroxamic acid (PCHA) is extracted with chloroform at pH 9.5, and shows maximum absorbance at 380 nm with optimum range for estimation 1.41-11.25 mu g/g. The sensitivity of the method was increased by the addition of 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol (PAR) after extracting Cd with PCHA at pH 9.5.
