Extraction of polyphenols from Pinus radiata bark

Holzforschung 39(5): 267-271

Air-dried bark of radiata pine was ground and separated into 3 different-sized fractions which were extracted with organic solvents and aqueous NaOH solutions. Phenolic acids, lignin and total polyphenols in the bark were estimated. The effects of solvent vol., extraction duration, particle size of bark fraction, amount of alkali and pH on yield of extracts were determined. The yield of extracts was dependent on the bark fraction and also on pH of the solvent.
