From March 1984 to February 1985 in Kentucky, USA, T. lacrymalis was detected in 51 (45%) of 113 one-year-old Thoroughbreds, 7 (26%) of 27 two-year-olds, 13 (45%) of 29 three-year-olds and 10 (50%) of 20 four-year-olds. Of the 189 horses examined 13% were infected in the left eye, 13% in the right eye and 17% in both eyes.
