Albendazole was given at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight daily x 5 days by subcutaneous injection to 4 P. melalophos experimentally infected with subperiodic B. malayi. At autopsy 4 weeks after treatment, all worms recovered were dead, calcified or degenerated. A total of 19 groups of dead worms were recovered. No live worm was recovered. In another control animal all 5 worms recovered were alive and active. There was little if any microfilaricidal effect of the drug.
