Finishing store lambs on green forage crops. 1. A comparison of rape, kale and fodder radish as sources of feed for finishing store lambs in autumn

Rape, kale and fodder radish were grown as catch crops in July and grazed by Suffolk X store lambs (30 per crop) in autumn for 8 weeks. Ten lambs per crop were drafted for slaughter on a weight basis on days 45 (S1), 52 (S2) and 59 (S3). Lamb liveweight gains were 152, 108 and 91 g and carcass gains were 71, 52 and 37 g daily for rape, kale and fodder radish, respectively.
