Frugivory and seed dispersal by birds

Frugivory and seed dispersal by birds

Investigations on the regeneration of high forests in Veracruz, Mexico Volume 2: 333-363

Studies were made from Aug. 1982 to Feb. 1983 in (a) primary rain forest and (b) 30-yr-old secondary forest at Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz. From Oct. to Feb., availability of fruits was low in (a); only Paullinia sp., Dendropanax arboreus, Allophylus campostachis and Bunchosia lindeniana continuously attracted frugivorous birds. Availability in (b) was even lower: only Smilax spp., Cecropia obtusifolia, and Ficus insipida were important to frugivorous birds.
