Fungemia due to Fusarium solani in an immunocompromised child

Fungemia due to Fusarium solani in an immunocompromised child

Pediatric Infectious Disease 5(3): 363-366

A case in a 12-yr-old boy with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in relapse is reported. On hospital day 28, he developed spiking fevers to 103 degrees F accompanied by skin lesions at a Hickman catheter site and on the extremities. Biopsy of a skin lesion revealed hyphae. Intravenous amphotericin B therapy (increased to 1 mg/kg daily in 4 days) was initiated. Multiple new skin lesions developed, becoming necrotic and haemorrhagic. By day 33 the skin biopsy specimen grew abundant F. solani.
