Fungemia in a cancer hospital: changing frequency, earlier onset, and results of therapy

Fungemia in a cancer hospital: changing frequency, earlier onset, and results of therapy

Reviews of Infectious Diseases 7(5): 646-655

Two hundred episodes of fungaemia that occurred at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Cent. between Jan. 1, 1978 and June 30, 1982, are reviewed and compared with those seen in the period 1974-77. The total number of fungaemia episodes per year increased by 30.6%, episodes per 100 new lymphoma and solid tumour patients increased by 73% and 95%, respectively, and episodes per 100 new leukaemia patients decreased by 50%.
