Pretreatment of embryos of a non-diapause strain of Melanoplus sanguinipes with actinomycin D followed by treatment of chromosome preparations obtained from them with sodium hydroxide or Sorenson's buffer, induced longitudinal differentiation of each chromosome after Giemsa staining.
