Induction of a defensive reaction in wheat seedlings in the presence of an inhibitor of stem rust spore germination

When seedlings of Triticum dicoccum Khapli, resistant to Puccinia graminis, and T. compactum Little Crab, susceptible, were washed with a solution of fungal spores containing an inhibitor of spore germination, changes in the incorporation of eucine in the soluble proteins of the seedlings (an index of response to attack) occurred by about 40 h after treatment in Khapli and were maintained for at least 24 h, while in the susceptible variety these changes were more short-lived, being no longer apparent by 64 h after treatment.
