Influence of potato plant phenology on the population dynamics of the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Homoptera: Aphididae)

The population dynamics of the aphid Myzus persicae were examined on 4 commercial potato cultivars, Katahdin, Norchip, Superior and 8NW-8, with differing maturation rates and on 1 wild potato, S. canasense PI 283074 in Pennsylvania in 1981. M. persicae abundance, population growth, alate abundance and within-plant distribution were compared among cultivars. The results showed that aphid numbers were similar among commercial cultivars during most of the growing season.
