Inhibition of 3-Phosphoglycerate-Dependent O(2) Evolution by Phosphoenolpyruvate in C(4) Mesophyll Chloroplasts of Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop

Inhibition of 3-Phosphoglycerate-Dependent O(2) Evolution by Phosphoenolpyruvate in C(4) Mesophyll Chloroplasts of Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop

Plant Physiology 76(3): 711-718

Phosphoglycerate-dependent O2 evolution by isolated D. sanguinalis chloroplasts was competitively inhibited by phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) when the ratio PEP:3-phosphoglycerate (PGA) was high, and the inhibition could not be overcome by the addition of inorganic P or ATP. The effects of PEP and inorganic P on PGA-dependent O2 evolution suggested interaction between PEP, inorganic P and PGA on the same translocator in the C4 mesophyll chloroplast.
