Intercropping of legumes and oilseed crops in sorghum - a review

Journal of Maharashtra Agricultural Universities 10(2): 128-133

This review of intercropping systems is in 5 parts: effect of sowing pattern; effect of intercrop on sorghum growth and yield; effect on economic return; uptake of nutrients and grain protein content; and irrigation management. The advantage of intercropping is greater in subnormal than normal seasons. Paired row sowing is efficient in using natural resources due to better root development and sunlight interception. This more stable system results in higher returns than pure cropping.
