Juice residue as a calcium source

Residues formed during purification of sugarbeet juice contained 40 to 42% calcium carbonate, up to 1% salts of phosphoric acid and oxalic acid, protein coagulates, coloured sugar, colorants and fibre. The residues were dried at 105 degrees C. Laboratory experiments showed that residues had no teratogenic or allergic effect and contained no trace of mercury, organophosphorus or organochloride compounds, nitrites, nitrates, fluorine or fluorides.
