Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and milk allergy

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and milk allergy

Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine 78(5): 410-413

A case report is presented of a 14-yr-old girl who had a 6-yr history compatible with a diagnosis of seronegative juvenile rheumatoid arthritis; she was lactase ( beta -D-galactosidase) deficient and there was a family history of milk allergy. Symptoms disappeared within 3 wk when all cows' milk protein was eliminated from her diet, but were reproduced by dietary provocation on 2 inadvertant and 2 planned occasions.
