A study of the leaves of 6 cultivars with different essential oils predominant (citral, linalool or geraniol) revealed differences between them in a number of traits, such as the size and number of epidermal cells and stomata per unit area, the number of palisade layers, the size, number and type of vascular tissues and the number of essential oil droplets and the rate of their accumulation.
