Meat quality of lambs fattened on mixed feeds with bacterial protein supplements



Veterinarnomeditsinski Nauki 21(7/8): 79-86



To 35 kg liveweight 2 groups of lambs were given mixed feeds without or with bacterial protein cultured on methanol, 5% replacing 60% of the sunflower oilmeal for 25 days and totally replacing urea for the remaining 65 days. Physical and chemical composition and biological value of meat was not adversely affected by the bacterial protein. There were no degenerative changes in skeletal muscle or parenchymatous organs. There was hypofunction of the thyroid gland in experimental lambs.
