Natural variability of strains of potato virus Y in Capsicum annuum crops in southeast France. Characterization and classification into pathotypes

Natural variability of strains of potato virus Y in Capsicum annuum crops in southeast France. Characterization and classification into pathotypes

Agronomie 5(7): 621-630

Based on the response of C. annuum genotypes with different levels of resistance, the PVY population could be classified into 3 pathotypes: PVY-0 comprising strs. infecting Bastidon and related cultivars; PVY-1 (Bastidon, Yolo Y and related cultivars) and PVY-1-2 (infecting the above, Florida VR-2 and related cultivars). The strs. of these pathotypes were closely related serologically to the type str. To-72, but were not or only distantly related to other potyviruses.
