Flexibacter columnaris was isolated in Romania from brown trout and rainbow trout on which the characteristic depigmentation associated with columnaris disease had been observed. Clinical signs were first seen on the fish farm in young brown trout on 7 July. The first deaths occurred on 15 July, increasing to 80% on 19 August and maximum mortality of 84% on 4 September, 59 days after the first signs were observed.
