Parasitic rheumatism by Endolimax nana. Objections

The brief communication by Burnstein, S.L. and Liakos, S. in Journal of Rheumatology (1983) 10, 514-515 regarding E. nana as the cause of parasitic rheumatism, is brought into question. E. nana is considered non pathogenic and non invasive, even in immunocompromized hosts. In 3763 consective studies on stools for parasites or ova only 210 were positive for E. nana. No patients had symptoms attributable to it. The use of metronidazole is briefly mentioned.
