Parasitism and utilization of imported cabbageworm pupae by Pteromalus puparum (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae)

A survey of pupae of Artogeia rapae collected from pesticide-free cabbage fields in Virginia, revealed that 64.1 and 32.5% were parasitized by Pteromalus puparum in 1983 and 1984, respectively. Parasitism was greatest in the latter part of the season. In commercially sprayed cabbbage fields, 67.2% of overwintering pupae were parasitized. Adults of P. puparum emerged successfully from 81.6 and 92% of the hosts in 1983 and 1984, respectively.
