Parks and recreation - a changing community service



World Leisure and Recreation 28(3): 20-36



Shifting values, patterns and conditions in society are resulting in changes in attitudes towards recreation, which present problems for decision makers and planners in the recreation field. Over the past decade, recreation has become more casual, with a continuing rejection of being organized and involved in long term commitments. The question now is how to provide facilities and programmes to a society which is reluctant to be organized and channelled.
