Pastures based on white clover in the West

A comparison between a pure Lolium perenne sward and a L. perenne/Trifolium repens sward was carried out at an experimental farm at Trevarez, Brittany in 1982-84. The pure sward was grazed for periods of 3-4 weeks and given 350 units N, whereas the mixed sward given 20-50 units N was grazed for periods of 10 days. Milk production/cow was similar for both sward types but tended to be more variable on a /hectare basis.
