Histopathological examination of the spleen in 144 slaughter cattle and 6 that had died from rinderpest revealed haemosiderosis in 25%, haemorrhage in 12%, atrophy in 10%, depletion of lymphoid follicles in 10%, vascular sclerosis in 6%, congestion in 6%, thrombosis of the splenic vein in 2%, focal capsulitis in 2%, calcinosis of the capsule and trabeculae in 2%, abscess in 1.5%, and reticular hyperplasia in 1.5%.
