Pathways of free proline accumulation in an NaCl-resistant cell line of Nicotiana sylvestris

Fiziologiya Rastenii 31(4): 712-720

Pathways of free proline accumulation in an NaCl-resistant cell line of Nicotiana sylvestris

In a comparison of a salt-sensitive wild strain and a resistant clone derived from it by cell selection, the resistant clone produced high amounts of free proline in the presence of NaCl as a result of accelerated proline synthesis from glutamate and partly also by the catabolic pathway (from arginine and ornithine).
