Patterns of mortality and age at first reproduction in natural populations of mammals

Patterns of mortality and age at first reproduction in natural populations of mammals

Nature, UK 315(6017): 319-320

For 25 mammalian species, representing 6 orders and 25 genera (including Ovis, Sus, Syncerus, Equus and Peromyscus), the correlation of age of at first "reproduction" with life expectancy at birth was higher than the correlations of each of the 2 traits with body weight (0.98 vs. 0.89 and 0.87 resp.; all were significant).
